<The Impact of Trump-Era Foreign Aid Cuts on Asian Development Pathways>
Date & Time: 2025.12.19. 13:00 - 18:00
Format: Hybrid (In-person and Online)
Venue: Room 203, Bldg. 57, Graduate School of Public Administration, Seoul National University (GSPA), The Republic of Korea
Co-hosted by: Global Development Institute for Public Affairs(GDI), Seoul National University and Korea Institute of Public Administration(KIPA)
Background
In the context of shifting global power and changing U.S. foreign policy, the Trump 2.0 administration's significant reduction in international aid in 2025 has generated lasting consequences, particularly for developing and middle-income countries across Asia. While much of the discourse has focused on Latin America or multilateral organizations, the specific implications for Asian aid recipients remain underexplored.
This international seminar aims to critically assess how these foreign aid cuts affected governance, development outcomes, donor alignment, domestic policies, and regional geopolitics in Asia. This seminar also examines the short-term and long-term implications of these funding cuts for recipient countries in Asia, focusing on how governments, civil society, and development actors have responded to the reduction or termination of U.S. assistance. We invite scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to submit original papers or case studies that explore these issues from political, economic, institutional, or comparative perspectives.
